教師簡介

Peggie Scott：來自於美國洛杉磯，藝術與視覺設計學士。1986年畢業於全球排名第二、亦是高科技和高等研究的先驅領導大學--麻省理工學院，也於世界知名的媒體實驗室(Media Lab)擔任助教。

大學期間，Peggie鑽研於與工程學相關的研究計畫。為了將工程學艱澀的概念用簡單的方式說明給大眾媒體及學校的參訪團體瞭解，開始有了「練習教學」的機會，對於教學方法以及學習方式很感興趣。畢業後，Peggie從事於科學教育，但是學生們的學習不再只是聽老師講課，而是從實驗中學科學，因此這種「從做中學」的教學態度，成了Peggie日後英語授課的哲學理念 ，她的英語課程轉而活潑且生活化。來到台灣前，曾經參加NPO/NGO組織輔導學生進行科學實驗，也在中國大陸有兩年大專程度的英語教學經驗。來到台灣後，Peggie希望能夠瞭解更多中國的文化以及歷史。

從青草湖社區大學擔任教師一職中，她找到了另一種教書與學習的樂趣。尤其在社大夥伴耐心的協助以及陌生人友善的關懷下，Peggie聽到了好多不同的故事。很多學生甚至成了她的老師和朋友，彼此分享、一起成長，她好喜歡這個充滿活力的台灣、充滿熱情的社區。未來，在教導大家英語的同時，她也希望夠更深入瞭解每一個學員，繼續從每個班級中學習。

Peggie的幽默總是帶給大家歡笑，讓原本生硬的英語課程變得活潑有趣；而Peggie的耐心讓害怕開口說英語的台灣人在沒有壓力的學習下，一點一滴累積英語的口說能力 ；Peggie的親和力，更創造出另一種英語的學習環境：利用簡單的語句分享彼此生活中的經驗。因此除了老師與學生的角色外，更多了一份朋友的關心。

I graduated from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1986 with a BS in Art and Visual Design. While in college I became interested in teaching methods and learning styles. Working with a research project gave me the opportunity to "practice teach" when it became my responsibility to translate engineering concepts into layman's terms for the media and visiting school groups. After graduation I went into the field of alternative science education where students learn science by doing. Rather than being just a passive listener they perform the experiments themselves. This is the philosophy I bring to the study of English.

I taught college level English for two years in Mainland China before coming to Taiwan. And now it is my very good fortune to be a teacher here at the Bamboo Community University.

I came to Taiwan hoping to learn more about the Chinese culture and history. And I have found that, at the CU, many of the students have become my teachers and my friends. Now, with the help, patience, and stories from my CU friends and from the kindness of strangers, Taiwan is coming alive for me. I hope to continue learning in every class I'm privileged to teach.

課程大綱

在課程中，你將學習和使用簡單的英文寫出自己的嗜好。在課程結束之前，每一位學員都會完成一本自己專屬的故事書，與你的家人和朋友共同分享。
In this class you will learn and use easy English to write about your hobby. At the end of the class you will have a project book to take home and share with your family and friends.

• 以下的一些專題可能會是您想做的
  1. 撰寫或翻譯一個兒童的故事：你的孩子或孫子有在學習英文嗎?以有趣的方式和孩子們共同學習，寫一些簡單的故事與家人一同閱讀。
  2. 照片故事的撰寫：照片裡的人物是誰?他們在做些什麼?拍照的地點?學習如何回答以上與照片相關的問題並使用英文回答問題。
  3. 寫出你最喜愛食物的食譜，與他人分享：不用擔心陌生的單字，我們會幫助您認識那些單字，您只需要帶來您最喜愛食物的食譜即可。
  4. 寫出你的旅遊經歷與家鄉：我們都喜歡了解世界各地的城市與國家，寫出你的旅遊經驗，並加上照片說明

  3. 繪畫?描述圖畫的內容
  4. 瑜珈？健行？釣魚？
  5. 無論你的嗜好是什麼，我們都可以學習用簡單的英文描寫出來
• Some examples of a project you might like to make:
  1. Write or translate a children's story:Is your child or grandchild learning English in school? Have fun with them and help them learn at the same time. Write simple stories that the two of you can read together.
     
  2. Write about your photos:Who is in the picture? What are they doing? Where are they? When was the picture taken? Learn to answer these simple questions about your own pictures so you can use them when speaking to other people in English.
  3. Write up your favorite recipes to share with others:Don't worry about the vocabulary that may be strange. We'll help you with the vocabulary, you just bring the recipes for your delicious dishes.
  4. Write about you travels or your hometown:We all like to read about other cities and other countries. Write about your experiences. Add photos, if you want to.

  1. Knitting? Translate the pattern.
  2. Reading? Write short book reports.
  3. Painting? Write about your pictures.
  4. Yoga? Hiking? Fishing?
  5. Whatever your hobby is we can write about it using simple English sentences.

課程規格

• 課程進行方式與教學目標：在課堂中可以作生活化的專題英文撰寫練習，課程結束後將會有一本學習的成果書可以和家人或朋友分享。
• In this class you will learn and use easy English to write about your hobby. At the end of the class you will have a project book to take home and share with your family and friends.
• 評鑑方式：本科目為三學分課程，依出席率及學習態度等整體評量學員之學習狀況，給予「優良」、「通過」或「不通過」之評定。
